Rajmund Teofil Hałas (1925-2008)

Rajmund Teofil Halas was born in 1925 in Poland. He studied at the university of art of Poznan between 1951 and 1957. After his studies, he worked in the furniture industry, then, from 1956 till 1969, he managed the Studio of Movable Design within the Union of the industry of furniture of Poznan. He occupied at the same time art director's post of the cooperative "Sculpture and Joinery" of Poznan.
In 1960, he founded the group "Kolo" with three others designer Czeslaw Kowalski, Leonard Koutchma and Janusz Rózanski. This group is at the origin of the Biennial event of the furniture of Poznan and leads in 1978 with the creation of the Steering committee of the international triennal of the furniture of Poznan.
In 1965 he became a professor at the Fines arts of Poznan. He also workd on the Institute of the industrial arts of Helsinki and stayed in the United Kingdom. This journey on the West gave him the idea to establish in 1971 the department of industrial design of the Academy of Arts of Poznan. He died in 2008.
