About Claustra ?
Definition
The room divider is a panel often found outside, used in particular to visually isolate a garden. Sometimes full, sometimes partially open, the room divider adopts many styles, and can be manufactured in different materials. Many decorators and designers have looked at this piece to introduce it into interiors. Its primary function as a partition has remained and has been supplemented with a decorative dimension.
The Ludvik Volak room divider
On our site, you will find, among different pieces, a choice of room divider, some of which are attributed to Ludvik Volak (which some wrongly attribute to Jindrich Halabala). In fact, the designer behind this creation has remained anonymous, so the name of the director of the publisher Drevopodnik Holesov, Ludvik Volak, has been chosen.
Volak's room dividers come in a wide variety of shades: some are made of mahogany, while others of ash, oak or maple have a lighter hue. The wood, through its grain, patterns and shades, allows each object to be unique.

The design comes in two models, the variation of which can be seen in the outer frame : : one is rectangular, with a classic shape, the other is characterized by rounded corners.
As for the organization of the shelves, it remains common to all models. Their original shape is appealing: the horizontal lines are rounded to become vertical. The eye slides between the vertical and horizontal shelves, from bottom to top, from one side to another. This wooden circuit creates, beyond aesthetics, practical storage compartments.
These rounded shapes are made possible thanks to a technique of bending the wood, which can then take the desired shape (commonly called "curved wood").
These room divider are also available in the form of shelves of different sizes:
Other room dividers
The design of a piece of furniture involves several actors including the designer and the editor. It is difficult, in some cases, to have access to information about the manufacturers of these pieces made in the 60s and 70s. This is why some of our pieces have remained anonymous. Their appearance differs greatly from Ludvik Volak's claustras : they differ by their height which is higher (about 250 centimeters) and by their thickness. Moreover, their internal organization can be more airy or on the contrary more compact. Here are some of the models we offer :
Why choose Ludvik Volak's room dividers ?
The "Ludvik Volak" wall combines practicality and design, without being cumbersome: with a standard depth of 15 centimeters, and a width of 90 centimeters, the shelves will allow you to store books, plants or other decorative objects, without invading your interior too much. Its height (225 centimeters without the feet) will allow you to optimize your storage space. The homogeneity of these dimensions allows them to be assembled in a variety of aesthetic ways. This storage can be installed against a wall, alone or attached to another, but can also be used as a partition to structure the space. If the height allows you, removable feet of different sizes are sometimes offered with the claustra. As previously mentioned, the variety of wood makes each piece of furniture unique.
It is up to you to select the one that will best fit your interior! At Galerie Parallele, renowned claustras are selected and then renovated by us, respecting the original model. The pieces you will find in our catalog are vintage, and imported directly from Eastern Europe.
