At the end of the 1980s, for the launch of a new beer, the president of the Japanese company "Asahi" asked Philippe Starck to design a demonstrative building for its headquarters in Tokyo. The French designer designed a black building, a little strange, topped by a golden flame. Despite his fears, his work was a great success.
It is thus in 1989 that the Asahi chair is drawn to furnish the interior, then from 1991 that it is published by Driade. It exists in different colors and materials. There is also a shepherdess version.
